Wilhelm Maybach is the designer of the horizontally opposed twin-cylinder engine. It is said to have been the first design of its kind, later widely used in aviation.

"Perhaps the first boxer engine" (PiP)
-The engine had a displacement of 1728 cc and produced only 5 hp at 940 rpm. Wilhelm was an industrial partner of Karl Benz.
