West Engineering Company Inc. developed turbines from turbochargers of other piston engines acquired from the Armed Forces as "Surplus" engines.
-Although no further details are known, the USAF/NAVY assigned it the code WS. It produced the XJ-38. (info at the NASM).
-Sometimes it is referred to simply as West.
From Appendix 6: As mentioned in the main text, turbojet engines of this brand were made using turbochargers acquired from wartime and Air Force surplus, that is, the so-called "Surplus" engines.
-Now we have a cutaway image of one of these engines built in Los Angeles by West Engineering for use in Navy target aircraft.

"West Turbojet" (PiP)
-The combustion chamber is specially and very clearly separated from the assembly. Its weight was around 180 lb.
From Appendix 9: The main text mentions this brand and shows a small turbine that was a solo project by Edward West, from 1946.
-It made a small turbine for drones commissioned by the US Navy. For this, West Engineering obtained 6,000 surplus turbochargers from WWII. They were General Electric Type B turbochargers.
-Later, the US Navy lost interest, and the program was canceled in 1950.
